Mansa Men is a FREE personal development program that positions young Black men for success at work and at home through mindfulness, skills development, and exposure to strong Black male role models within the hospitality and entrepreneurship fields. During monthly training sessions participants will be taken through programming that increases their ability to perform on the job and in life. Each session, participants will be provided with training and guidance in the areas of healthly living, mindfulness, and entrepreneurship.
The goals of the Mansa Men program is to provide young men (aged 13-18) with the opportunity to learn skills necessary to be healthy in mind, body and spirit, to cope with new and at times high stress situations, and to feel empowered to start their own business. Using a lens of trauma-informed care, Mansa Men has been specifically curated to provide high impact training over a short period of time – meditation and yoga to center the mind in the midst of change/crisis; soft skills development to encourage leadership, self-empowerment, and preparation for a multitude of environments; and hard skills to prepare them for success in an industry with a relatively low barrier to entry, increasing the likelihood of employment upon program completion.
The program will run every 4th Saturday from October 2018 thru June 2019.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED BEYOND EVENTBRITE: VISIT rebrand.ly/mansamen - you must register your son via this link and attend one of the mandatory sessions in order to be considered for this experience.
Mansa Men - the name defined. The program name was derived from Mansa Musa who ruled the Mali Empire in the 14th century and his land was laden with lucrative natural resources, most notably gold. He is known as the richest man in history. Mansa means king, emperor, or sultan. A name defines character and we would like instill in these young men the reality that they are rich in mind, body and spirit and they naturally possess the resources within them to achieve any and all of their life goals and choices.
This program is a collaboration between Maroon Arts Group, Willowbeez SoulVeg, and Food Fort and is funded by Columbus' My Brother's Keeper Initiative.
