About PACT
Purpose Built Communities
Purpose Built Communities is working to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. It does so by helping local leaders transform struggling neighborhoods, and bringing together the vital components necessary for holistic community revitalization: high quality mixed-income housing, an effective cradle-to-college education pipeline, and comprehensive community wellness resources. In order to do this, it must be organized and driven by a single purpose non-profit community quarterback. In Columbus, that community quarterback is PACT.
PACT’s vision is to create a healthy, financially and environmentally sustainable community where residents have access to safe and affordable housing, quality healthcare and education, and employment opportunities on the Near East Side of Columbus, Ohio.
Partners Achieving Community Transformation (PACT) is a partnership between the The Ohio State University and Near East Side stakeholders.

Letter from Our Executive Director
Dear Near East Side Community,
It’s a privilege to serve this neighborhood and walk alongside the residents, partners, and faith leaders who make the Near East Side such a strong and resilient place. At PACT, we see our role as the Community Quarterback, bringing people, resources, and vision together to support transformation that happens with the community, not to it.
Our work is only possible because of the collaboration and commitment of those who call this neighborhood home. Together, we’re building a future rooted in heritage, access, and shared opportunity.
Thank you for your trust and partnership.
Sheldon K. Johnson
